Thistle & Oak Tattoo Studio
WELCOME TO
THISTLE & OAK!
We're Open:
Wednesday - Saturday
12 - 7pm
We are a woman owned, woman and non-binary operated, LGBTQ+ friendly shop in the heart of Ohio. We are a fully custom shop and we love to create art with you in mind!
Areal has wanted to be a business owner and tattoo artist since she was a kid. Thistle and Oak is the manifestation of that dream.
We want this to be a safe, welcoming environment for all people. We believe in being tolerant of all but the intolerant.
We also believe that art is necessary to life and that tattoos, while a luxury, are important to many people. Tattoos are an expression of the self, as well as a way to help people love themselves. This is a profession that we are all passionate about and grateful to be a part of.
Meet the Artists
Areal Joy
She/Her
American Traditional/Neo-Traditional
Hi! My name is Areal Joy . I’m the owner of Thistle and Oak Tattoo Studio. I’m a mom to some amazing little people. I’m also a plant and pet mom. I love hiking and being outdoors but I’m also a hobbit who loves staying in and watching movies or reading. I’m a huge cult classic fan, and a well rounded nerd. I could talk for hours about movies and books. I love to incorporate my other passions into my craft.
Tattooing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up going to tattoo shops with family and friends and I’ve always been drawn to tattooing as a career. After my personal experiences with tattoo shops in my younger years I knew I wanted to provide a different environment; a safe and welcoming environment for clients who don’t normally experience that. We’re proud to provide a clean and professional shop that is also cozy and welcoming. I’m grateful to work with, and meet, people who inspire me daily. I love being a part of my clients journeys and merging their personality into my designs.
Let me create something unique for you!
Kota Grey
They/Them
Neo-Traditional/Black and Grey
Hey, I’m Kota! I’m 25, and I’ve been drawing since I was able to hold a pencil. Art is the most important thing in my life. I love digital art, painting, charcoal, and above all, tattooing. Nothing makes me happier than being able to take your ideas and bring them to life.
When I’m not tattooing, I can be found skating, painting, playing video games, or hanging out with my cats Mae, Moon, and Margo. My favorite style of tattooing is Neotraditional, and I’ve recently started doing black and grey realism (which I’d love to do more of)! Some of my favorite things to tattoo are anything anime, anything neotraditional, lady faces, or anything weird, creepy, or spooky!
I look forward to putting something cool on you!

Realism/Large Scale Projects
I've been tattooing for over a year while in Mansfield. I attended the Columbus College Of Art and Design, and received a Bachelors Of Fine Arts. There, I met my husband who is also an artist. During covid, my husband and I decided to move to Mansfield, where I could be closer to my family, and start my career in tattooing. I enjoy all things horror, black and grey, and color realism. I also love taking on large-scale projects!

Neo-Traditional/Floral/Color Illustrative
Hey there! My name is Shawney. I'm 25 years old and a mother to a special little boy and 3 fur babies! I've been tattooing for a little over 3 years now. My favorite styles are Neo-Traditional and both color and black & grey floral. Outside of tattooing, you can find me hanging out with my family
and friends, collecting crystals and oddities, and listening to different podcasts.
I would love to do more colorful kawaii tattoos and to tattoo more color tattoos on my POC friends!
Cassi Garrison
She/Her
Anime/Neo-Traditional
My name is Cassi and I absolutely love anything cute, pink, or anime themed. I love doing color tattoos, especially anime and neo traditional. I started tattooing because I wanted to become a safe place for people that felt intimidated by tattoo shops and show them how nice of an experience it can be. My main goal as a tattoo artist is to make people feel welcome and comfortable!

Rae Carroll
She/Her
Neo-Traditional/American Traditional
Hi, I’m Rae! I’m the newest artist here at Thistle and Oak Tattoo Studio.
Art has been a big part of my life for a long time. I love working with graphite, paint, and making digital art.
When I’m not learning things at the studio, I can be found at home hanging with my fur children Wilfred, and Poe. I also like playing video games, reading, and watching random videos on YouTube.
I have wanted to be a tattoo artist for years and it’s such a surreal experience learning how.
One of my favorite things about tattooing is being able to make someone’s day a little brighter. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a client happy with a piece I’ve done for them! I also think it’s so fun getting to know my clients and hearing about the things they love. I would be stoked for you to come hang out, get a piece of my art, and talk about all the awesome things you like!
Shop Manager
Cait von Haase
She/Her
Hey, I'm Cait! I'm the voice behind most of the online interactions. I'm also the smiling face behind the desk. Basically what I'm saying is: Hi! I'm the Shop Manager of Thistle and Oak Tattoo Studio. I'm also the creator of Gallipot Tattoo Balms, which we sell in the shop alongside work from local artists and artisans.
When I'm not scheduling appointments, I'm home with my partner and our 6 dogs and cats. When I'm not home or at work, I can usually be found at the Tiger P.A.W. Karate dojo where I train and help coach or heading to a different state to work a Renaissance Faire.
In my spare time (ha!), I enjoy reading, cooking, crafting, and travelling. I've lived all over this country, met amazing people, and learned so much. I can't wait to see more of the world!
